Upholstery Fabrics - general information
Fabric Content
All our fabrics are yarn dyed woven cotton - 100% in the case of all the above fabrics - the linen is 50% linen 50% cotton to give structure and reduce creasing.
Fabric Treatments
Our fabrics are not finished or treated in any way as they are made into products where this may not be appropriate.
Fire Retardant treatment may be undertaken on the customers behalf and on the advice of your upholsterer - details are available on request.
This process is not available for Deckchair canvas due to the reduced width.
Martindale Rub Test
Most of our yarn dyed fabrics are approximately 21000 (some slight variations) - suitable for domestic and commercial use.
Average GSM 350/360
Pattern Repeats
Many of our stripes have a broad repeat to the pattern running across the width, so care must be taken with measuring - please see the repeat width measurement on each product page.
Colour matching and fastness
We advise ordering free recent swatches for colour matching - there is a small postage charge for these and swatches are sent with a discount code to redeem on future purchase.
Swatches may then be tested for colour fastness - however we advise dry cleaning or sponge cleaning where necessary.
Caution: In certain situations, red dyes in woven fabrics are particularly vulnerable to running into white if left damp, e.g. spills which are left unattended for a period of time.
Stripe Direction and Slubs
All stripes run vertically down the rolls. As these are woven fabrics and not printed, there is little or no selvedge running down the sides of the rolls with little waste.
Slubs are small inclusions in woven fabric which are not faults but an irregularity in the weave. This occurs during the weaving process when a minuscule piece of lint is trapped between the warp and weft threads. If they are very noticeable on detailed inspection, we reject the fabric.
However, as we are committed to less waste, we try to avoid this process in the hope that the customer accepts the fabric along with the tiny imperfections which are part of the character!
